Donations of any size are gratefully received. There is a registered charity based in Scotland, in the care of Robert and Eleanor Wood, who are currently happy to handle donations via the charity's bank account.
Please contact julie.voice@btinternet.com for further details about how to securely donate funds. Please do not send funds directly to the school. The postal system in Kenya is not secure and the funds are unlikely to reach the school.
There are many other ways of helping the children of Shikamana School. Sponsored events are always a popular way of raising funds. Garage Sales, Table top Sales, Car Boot Fairs can all provide sufficient income for the school to make good use of.
On a more permanent scale, it is possible to Sponsor a Child, by committing £60 a year (just £5 a month) towards, school fees, uniform and some basic school equipment. You will recieve regular news from the school, and personal communication from the child (if of the appropriate age) and occasional photographs. For further information on this scheme please click here.
It is possible to Sponsor a Class, by committing to donating a regular amount of your choice on a monthly basis, which can then be used for equipment for that class. The class teacher will regularly update you on class activities and achievements.
I have rarely been in a school where the enthusiasm of the staff is so contagious. It is clear to any visitor, that the staff enjoy their work, and the children in turn enjoy their lessons and show enormous respect for these dedicated teachers and support staff. Without such dedicated teachers this school cannot provide the high standard of education it currently achieves.
Please give some thought to ways you may be able to help the children and staff at Shikamana School.
